Requirements for certification as an International Gambling Recovery Specialist (IGRS)

The IGRS certification aims to increase the number of peers to help meet the need for support in disordered gambling recovery. Candidates must complete specialized training focused on gambling disorder, gain experience working directly with individuals affected by problem gambling, and adhere to ethical standards. The certification ensures that peers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to guide others through the recovery process, offering support, understanding, and encouragement based on shared experiences.

Training

30 hours (IRGS) of IPGGC-approved gambling-specific training and education

Experience

100* hours (peer support, outreach, engagement) in a volunteer and/or paid capacity

Eligibility

Applicants must possess first-hand experience with problem gambling, either personally or as an affected individual

Evaluations

8 hours of demonstrating application of training education and techniques with a Board Approved Recovery Advisor (BARA) or Board Approved Clinical Consultant (BACC)
